Piccolo Forno

4.7/5.0 (1863 reviews)

Piccolo Forno offers a unique Italian dining experience in the heart of San Francisco. With fast service and a delightful dessert menu, it’s worth a visit for pasta lovers.

Our Expert's Take

Piccolo Forno presents a mixed bag of culinary experiences, with a standout in its service. The staff's attentiveness and friendliness elevate the dining experience, making every guest feel welcome. However, the food itself leaves something to be desired, particularly in terms of flavor. The entry bread with vinegar lacked the expected punch, and while the gnocchi was a highlight, other pasta dishes fell flat, which can be disappointing for those seeking authentic Italian tastes.

On a positive note, the tiramisu at Piccolo Forno is a delightful conclusion to the meal, showcasing a freshness that brings a smile. It’s clear that while the kitchen may struggle with flavor consistency, they have a few gems worth savoring. For those who prioritize service and a pleasant atmosphere over culinary perfection, Piccolo Forno could still be worth a visit, especially if you indulge in their dessert offerings.

What Diners Are Saying

Rating: 2/5

"Underwhelming flavors, not a fan. Service: 10/10 fast and super polite and friendly Food: taste wasn’t it, entry bread w vinegar had no flavor. The pastas all lacked flavor except the gnocchi one. Tiramisu was nice and fresh we liked it a lot. Pizzas weren’t a favorite. Overall: wouldn’t come here again, do to the food taste. Otherwise service is so nice."

"Wow, wow, wow. This is some delicious, fresh Italian. I have had the opportunity to eat here on two different occasions while visiting San Francisco. The first time was with my family and the second with employees. The owner is incredibly friendly and accommodating and yes, he’s an authentic Italian. The lasagna will melt in your mouth and the desserts (especially the panna cotta) is to die for!!! I will be back on my next visit to the beautiful city."

"Top tier mushroom ravioli, can’t say I’ve had better. Extremely sweet staff, the fresh warm bread, chilly oil and house tiramisu were additional standouts. But the ravioli… bellissimo"

"This place is great for a fun group. The staff is outgoing, attentive, and professional. The food is delicious and has large portions. It is priced very reasonably. It is not a quiet date night type place, but it is just perfect for a happy vibe. Definitely recommend!"

"Oh wow. Definitely, the best carbonara in the city. Everything in it: spaghetti, guanciale, pecorino romana, everything is of the highest quality, expertly cooked. Al dente, guanciale is crispy and juicy, served very hot. Margherita pizza is also very good. The arugula salad was the freshest. The salmon was also delicious; with garlic that did not overpower it. After all that, Giuseppe, the owner, gave us tiramisu on the house. It was soft as a cloud, not very sweet: delicioso. I will be back for bucatini ala amatriciana. The place is full of characters both who serve you, and the regulars. On a Wednesday at 1:30pm, you can get a table easily."
